My Bead Soup!

Okay, so I've been quite the slacker lately, but not by choice.  I've had that crud that's been going around down here, and I've had a LOT of grading to get done. But, I think I'm finally starting to get caught back up!

One of the MAJOR things that I needed to take care of was getting pictures of the beautiful Bead Soup my partner, Robin Reed, of Artistry HCBD, sent me a few weeks ago! Part of the problem is I'm still trying to figure out WHERE to take pictures in this new house!  I'm hoping in a few days I'll maybe have an actual studio set up, but if nothing else, hopefully by the end of March.

But, I was able to FINALLY get some pics of the Soup!

LOOK at this awesome box she sent me!!!  How did she know I love containers? :)

Fun bits!

Glass and Crystals

Crystals and a sneaky peek! :)

More glass and crystals, and I don't know what that stone is, but I LOVE IT!

The clasp!  So pretty! and the FOCAL!

Pink Striped Jasper :)

And the other side.  :)  It's so pretty!!!!!
So there you have it! Ain't it awesome?  I can't wait!  The ideas are percolating!  Come back on March 30th to see what happens!

Remembering Tanya; or...

What some crazy folk will do for beads.

The Background:

Some of you (well, especially those of you coming here through the hop) know about our Tanya. She was awesome-sauce.  Well, somewhere she still is awesome sauce.  See, Tanya (aka, FusionMuse) became a good friend of mine on Facebook over the last year.  Unfortunately, for most of that time, Tanya was very ill.  She passed away at the beginning of this year, and we miss her dearly.

Awhile back, she created a group on Facebook for artists (mainly jewelry, but I know there's other folks in there, too) to have a safe place to come and chat, ask for advice, and just have fun.  Thankfully,  the group is still up and running.  And, after some discussion, we decided to have this bloghop.   The plan was to create something fabulous to remember Tanya.  I have some fabulousness in the works, but events (of which Tanya was well aware) have conspired against me, and I'm running behind. More so now than I was...  So, that's actually what I'm going to talk about!

The Thought Process:

Okay, I was FINALLY well on my way to finishing my projects tonight when the idea I had didn't pan out.  No big, it happens, I'll take another direction.  So... WIRE!  Tanya sent me brass wire!  Yes, I'll play with that!  Hey, I can make loops!  Yes!  HOOP EARRINGS!!!!!  OH YEAH BABY!  [yes, this is how my brain works...] Damn, wire not cooperating... hmmm...   twist here, turn there, wrap wrap wrap...  hmmm...  coil this bit here...  dude, I made a cat...  wow.  he's kinda cute.  KARTER CAT!!!!  Tanya rescued Karter kitty, and I made him outta wire!!!!  Earrings?  Can I make another? let's see...   twist, turn, wrap wrap, turn.... coil....  oh! kinda!  Tail's a bit different.   Eh, it's fine...  Karter Kitty earrings!  Hey, I could but that bead I made in here....  Oh... no...  not really...  hmmm..  okay, make those into drop earrings, and I'll figure out something for Karter kitty [actually, I'm going to use tiger's eye that Tanya sent me... yes, I know Karter Kitty is white, but I like my tiger's eye] hmmm...  moonstone..   yes... needs something else...  TOURMALINE!!!!! But I want that pink in the middle there...  hey, you have all those empty tubes, but the tourmaline in a tube...   Cool.....

The Insanity:

And right there, I dropped the tube of tourmaline (no-longer-strung TEENY tiny tourmalines) on the SHAG carpet....  THIS shag carpet:

You see that bead in there? Yeah, I dropped most of a 16 inch strand on THAT carpet...
Oh, have I mentioned that I don't have a flashlight (thank god for cell phones) and that I'm kinda allergic to carpet? yeah....

Anywho, because these are my TOURMALINES!  But mainly because they're my TANYA tourmalines, DOWN onto the floor I went, to find the beads.  I used a handheld vac for some, but most I had to COMB through the carpet to find.... Managed to get most of them, I think:

I actually found more than this...
So why am I telling this crazy story in a blog hop to celebrate a dear friend?  Well, it occurred to me, as I was belly down on the floor, combing through my carpet with only my iPhone for decent lighting, that Tanya would get a kick out of this story.  She'd call me a "silly girl," tell me not to worry and go to bed, and, in that way she had, sneakily send me more tourmalines, along with something else I had mentioned I wanted to try. She was just that type of person....

So, here's what I'm GOING to finish, tomorrow:

In the top left corner, a beaded bead I made using rose quartz I got from Tanya, moonstones, and those pesky tourmalines. In the right corner, Karter Kitty, with his tiger eye beads waiting to be wrapped.... I may try ears, too...   Oh, and in the center, the rest of the tourmalines I found...

Tanya was beautiful soul, and a generous spirit.   Even in the midst of all her own problems, with her health and all, she was ALWAYS there for her friends, and you could always take your problems to her for a willing ear and, if she had it, sound advice. I miss her so much.

Woot for bead soup! :)

So, I met my Bead Soup partner last week!  Her name is Robin Reed, and you can find her blog, Artistry HCBD, here.  You should go check it out and see all the pretties she makes!

I was able to send off my Bead Soup for her yesterday, so I thought I'd share a sneaky peek here.

I can't wait till she gets it!  :)

More later!

Feel the Love

So, yeah, I'm late with this post...  but here it is!  :p

Okay, last week's prompt was "Feel the Love" for Sally's Focus on Life blog hop.  After the events of the last few weeks, and the trouble I had with the "Capture your Heart" prompt, I was really not looking forward to trying to figure this one out.

Then, it hit me.  What did I do last weekend?  Well, I, and several good friends and 2 VERY NEW friends, moved ALL MY CRAP!!!!! And let me tell you, I have A LOT of crap....  er.... stuff....

So, here's me, feeling the love:

That would be my coffee table.  and a hutch...   and crap stuff
the garbage bags are clothes....  I swear....

Okay, this is actually 2 views of the same room, and, in one of those weird twists, it is WAY worse than it looks.  And this is only one room!  There's another that I refuse to open the door to anytime soon.  And there's furniture in the guest bath...  oi...  But you know what, it's all here now, and I have some of the most FABULOUS people in the world to thank for that.

So, LaRita, Kurt, Frank, Nancy, Amy, John, Jayden, Skyler, Nathan, Matt, Marie, Mia, and Matthew--I love you guys.  Thank you.

And Sally--thank you for giving me the opportunity to articulate all this.  It's been a great help!

Inspired By Winter

A few weeks ago, Sally over at the Studio Sublime asked us if we felt the need for a challenge.  I pondered it, and decided yup, yup, I did.  Which, in retrospect, maybe not my best decision ever, what with all I have on my plate right now.  But I wanted to play.  And with all that on my plate, creative fun time can sometimes get pushed not to the back-burner, but off the stove entirely!

Anyway, Sally's challenge for us was to be "Inspired by Winter" and create a piece of jewelry to reflect that inspiration. Now, as you may know, I live in Florida.  Not a terribly "wintery" place at the best of times, and this year has so far been a bit stranger than usual.  So, I decided to think back to past years, and try to decide what my favorite part of winter is.

After a bit of thought, I decided it was clothes.  I LOVE my winter clothes!  Now, MY winter clothes are definitely not suitable for a northern winter.  Maybe a northern autumn.  But that doesn't matter.  They're MY winter clothes, after all!  lol!

Many of my winter clothes are in shades of brown and russet, in wonderful warm fabrics and tones.  I decided my jewelry should reflect that.  And so, a couple of pairs of earrings were born! :)

Gorgeous, silky brown glass pearls, my favorite new beaded beads, and a fun, unexpected pop of teal.

Raku glazed ceramic beads, brass and copper bead caps, and copper chain.
Now, go check out the other participants!  :)

Capture my Heart

This week's Focus on Life prompt from Sally over at The Studio Sublime was a bit difficult for me. She asked us to "Capture our Hearts."

See, I was supposed to have something wonderful happen at the 1st of the year, but it hasn't happened. I don't want to go into details, but what I thought was a wonderful relationship has fallen apart.  And I don't know why.

I had pondered not participating this week, but then I decided, no, I needed to not let this impact what I WANT to do.  And part of what I want to do, is blog more, and participate in this hop.

So, I started looking around.  Where could I find hearts in this new life I'm having to build for myself?  Well, oddly, I found a perfect heart--for me, in this time-frame, at least--in my shower.

It's all dinged and rough around the edges.  That's my heart right now.  A little bit broken, but it'll mend.

I also have to include my furry-hearts.  They seem to know that mommy is a bit tender just now, so they're (mostly) being good.

Buttercup, at her cuteness best.
My Dobby-head, guarding the bed! lol!
So that's this week.  Thanks for stopping by, and don't forget to check out the other entries!
