Inspired By Winter

A few weeks ago, Sally over at the Studio Sublime asked us if we felt the need for a challenge.  I pondered it, and decided yup, yup, I did.  Which, in retrospect, maybe not my best decision ever, what with all I have on my plate right now.  But I wanted to play.  And with all that on my plate, creative fun time can sometimes get pushed not to the back-burner, but off the stove entirely!

Anyway, Sally's challenge for us was to be "Inspired by Winter" and create a piece of jewelry to reflect that inspiration. Now, as you may know, I live in Florida.  Not a terribly "wintery" place at the best of times, and this year has so far been a bit stranger than usual.  So, I decided to think back to past years, and try to decide what my favorite part of winter is.

After a bit of thought, I decided it was clothes.  I LOVE my winter clothes!  Now, MY winter clothes are definitely not suitable for a northern winter.  Maybe a northern autumn.  But that doesn't matter.  They're MY winter clothes, after all!  lol!

Many of my winter clothes are in shades of brown and russet, in wonderful warm fabrics and tones.  I decided my jewelry should reflect that.  And so, a couple of pairs of earrings were born! :)

Gorgeous, silky brown glass pearls, my favorite new beaded beads, and a fun, unexpected pop of teal.

Raku glazed ceramic beads, brass and copper bead caps, and copper chain.

  1. I hear Northern Florida has at least had some pretty darn chilly nights! Your earrings are gorgeous - the beaded bead in your first pair is truly an artpiece - the only problem I have with gorgeous earrings is that I CANNOT SEE THEM when I am wearing them! Beautiful job!

  6. The colors of your earring are the colors I like to wear up here in Northwest Florida in the winter. I especially like the set with the Raku ceramic beads. Great designs.

  10. I favor those colors, too. I end up wearing what other people have deemed autumnal colors a good part of the year. Your earrings are beautiful and perfect to represent our mild winters.

  11. I would definitely wear both pairs of these earrings. They are gorgeous and in my favorite colors for fall, summer, winter or spring. Love 'em. It's funny how a few degrees can define cold or warm. It was a sunny 41 degrees today in Ohio. People were out shopping, jogging, and I saw a lot of walkers out enjoying the warmth this winter :)

  12. Beautiful work - they would be perfect paired with thick sweaters and jeans - just what I think of when looking for winter jewellery.
